Growing older brings its joys and challenges. For some it can be a relaxed and peaceful time – surrounded by people we love, we feel unencumbered, free and perhaps a little wiser. It can also bring feelings of loneliness and isolation. An assortment of disabilities might bring more interaction with services and family and they may or may not be lesbian-friendly. Some older lesbians miss lesbian company. Matrix has a free visiting service for members where lesbian volunteers meet with isolated older lesbians in their homes or residences for a minimum of two hours per month.
Visits might also include outings to cafes, shops and other social activities. The visitors will be supported by a coordinator and receive training. They will be covered by insurance and will receive a small travel allowance for visits.
